The Senior Policy Advisor works as a member of the U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat in providing direct technical and policy assistance to support Alliance states in developing and implementing climate policy. Your day may include working with state officials to draft a new Electric Vehicle (EV) plan, meeting with advocates to shore up support for a governor’s climate initiative, convening stakeholders to solicit and integrate comments for a new building code, or walking through the pros and cons of various policies with state officials weighing different options. That means that the right candidate is a highly talented individual with real, on-the-ground experience developing state climate and clean energy policy – sharing that sought-after practical experience with state officials. You will be most happy in this job if you are ready to roll up your sleeves and do real policy work, are comfortable serving state officials in whatever capacity they need achieve their goals, and enjoy thoughtfully building trusting relationships through lots (and lots) of phone calls and video conferences before spending several days on the ground with state partners.
The Senior Policy Advisor reports to the Executive Director of the U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat, in support of and responding to state-led initiatives, and will be expected to work as part of a broader team that includes Alliance states, consultants and external partners. The position is part of the Energy and Climate team at the United Nations Foundation, which houses the U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat.
The location of this position is flexible, and applicants must be willing to travel throughout the country as needed (25-50%).
